Introduction to Mushing

A MUSH (defined as a Multi-User Shared Hallucination) is a form of text-based, interactive community. In the case of Elder Tale Online, this community is built around RP (Role-playing) in the setting of an Isekai (Trapped in Another World). Elder Tale borrows elements from popular Anime such as Log Horizon, Sword Art Online, and .hack.

An RPG MUSH can be seen as a form of interactive storytelling. Everyone brings their own character to the gaming table and plays them together through the medium of writing. This is facilitated by character stats and dice rolls, similar to a table-top RPG (Role-Playing Game).

Playing on a MUSH can be easy to learn, but hard to master. Here are a few basic commands that can be used to navigate this new world of gaming you have found yourself part of:

Basic Commands

• Look - Allows you to see the description of the room you are in and any objects and exits contained.
• Look <object/person> - Allows you to see the description of an object, exit, or person.
• +Glance - Get quick details about people in your room (name, sex, alliance, guild, and short-description)
• Say <message> - Speaks a message aloud. Appears as <Person> says, "Message."
• :<sentence> or Pose <sentence> - Is used to represent your character performing an action. Appears as <Person> <sentence>.
• @emit <text>- Is used to write in a more free-form format, without your character's name at the start. This will appear exactly as it is typed.
• +Finger <person> - Shows publicly known information about that character.
• +Sheet - Shows your character sheet (stats).
• +Who / Who - Shows all connected players and basic information about them.
• +Where - Shows groups of people by location within the game.
• QUIT - Log off the MUSH.

Navigation Commands

• Exits - In each room, you will see a list of exits at the bottom of the room description. You can travel through an exit by typing the information contained in parenthesis. Example: Out (O). Typing 'O' will take you through that exit. You can also click on a highlighted exit if your game client supports that functionality.
• +Join <person> - Automatically teleports you to the location of another person.
• +Map/list - Gives you a list of locations that you can teleport to. You can go there by clicking the @tel command if your client supports this functionality or by typing the @tel command into your client.
• +Map/tower - The same as +map/list but for Aincrad Tower locations.
• +Map - Shows you your location, graphically, on the game grid. If your client supports it, some locations can be clicked on to teleport automatically to those locations.
• @OOC - If you are on the game grid, this teleports you to the OOC Nexus.
• @IC - If you are in the OOC Nexus, this teleports you back to your last IC location.

Communication

• Page <person>=<message> - Page a person with a private message.
• Page <person>=:<message> - Emote/pose in a private page message.

Channels

• @Chan/List - Lists all available channels on the MUSH. All channels are OOC (Out Of Character).
• @Chan/join <channel> - Join a channel.
• @Chan/leave <channel> - Leave a channel.
• @Chan/gag <channel> - Temporarily silence a channel (turns back on upon your next login).
• @Chan/ungag <channel> - Unsilences a channel.
• +<Channel> <message> - Talk on a channel.
• +<Channel> :<action> - Emote/Pose to a channel.

Chimlinks

• +Chimlink/directory - Lists all Chimlinks. Chimlinks are IC (In-Character) chats.
• +Chimlink/join <Chimlink> - Joins a Chimlink.
• .<Chimlink> <message> - Speak on a chimlink.
• .Chimlink :<action> - Emote/Pose to a chimlink.

Common Formatting

• %r - Linebreak character. Use this when you want to insert linebreaks into poses or descriptions. Use two (%r%r) for cleaner paragraph breaks.
• %t - Inserts a tab (spacing) into a pose or description.

Please note, this page is not meant to be an exhaustive or comprehensive list of all commands utilized throughout the Mush. Many of the commands offered here have more advanced functionality which can be discovered through the helpfile system. The +help system will provide much more in-depth details on commands and their functions. It is recommended that you review helpfiles when needed to refresh yourself on MUSH commands.
